Spotlight On: Skills for Chicagoland’s Future

Posted on January 3, 2022

Skills for Chicagoland’s Future’s (Skills) focus is on connecting jobs to people and people to jobs because they believe that everyone should have equal access to jobs. The roadblocks and hurdles that exist for unemployed and underemployed job seekers are often unsurmountable and build on systemic inequities in the workforce and economy. Through placement into jobs, Skills works to reduce barriers to employment and increase equity for unemployed and underemployed job seekers.

Skills’ utilizes a non-traditional jobs-first workforce approach which starts by working with employers to identify hiring needs and develop career pathways. Then, Skills staff personally find, interview, coach and connect qualified unemployed and underemployed candidates directly to hiring managers, bridging the access gap that exists. Over 70% of Skills’ applicants come from historically underserved neighborhoods on Chicago’s South and West Sides.

Skills’ unique approach has produced consistent results and profound impact on thousands of people annually across the Chicagoland area. Jobs can be life-changing, and Skills is here to make that a reality.

Skills operates out of a headquarters in the Loop, along with neighborhood-based offices in Englewood and in a new West Side space opening in 2022.
