Creating collaborative solutions to improve the lives of transitioning veterans and their families.

The Veteran’s Community Initiative is a collaborative effort designed to support veterans as they transition into civilian life. Launched in September 2024 by the Milken Institute, in partnership with The Duchossois Family Foundation and the Tullman Family Office, the initiative focuses on addressing the practical and emotional challenges veterans often face. Each year, about 200,000 service members transition out of the military, facing difficulties in securing housing, employment, and healthcare, as well as managing their mental health needs.

The initiative aims to develop a comprehensive understanding of veterans’ needs by engaging with stakeholders across sectors, including government, nonprofit organizations, and above all, the veteran community. By identifying key gaps and opportunities, the Veteran’s Community Initiative will highlight how targeted philanthropic investments can make a meaningful impact on veterans’ lives. The effort will culminate in a 2025 report, offering insights into how philanthropy can better serve veterans and their families.
