Our Mission

At the core of its mission, Special Olympics Illinois uses the power of sport as a catalyst for social change. By highlighting how the needs of people with intellectual disabilities are not being met, inequity and exclusion are exposed. By drawing attention to the gifts of people with intellectual disabilities, misconceptions are broken down and negative attitudes are tackled.

Special Olympics has moved beyond being just a sporting organization and is transitioning to become the premiere organization communities look to for leadership in the inclusion movement.
