Providing stigma-free PTSD treatment to veterans, service members, and families.

Our goal is to help our clients “Triumph Over Trauma” by providing them with effective mental health treatment. The Headstrong Project’s network of clinical trauma specialists provides individualized, evidence-based, outpatient care.

The Headstrong Project (THP) is a non-profit national mental health organization providing confidential, barrier-free, and stigma-free, trauma-focused mental health treatment to all eras of veterans, service members, members of the National Guard and Reserves, and family members connected to their care, regardless of discharge status. Currently operating in 15 states and within the District of Columbia, THP serves approximately 2,000 clients annually via its decentralized clinical partner network of almost 300 psychologists, licensed clinical social workers, counselors, psychiatrists, and neurofeedback providers.

Veterans and service members report difficulties in accessing culturally competent, timely care for a variety of reasons, including finances, insurance, transportation, VA/DoD waitlists, privacy concerns, and general difficulty navigating the mental health landscape. THP individually matches each person’s needs and preferences with clinicians in private practice who have extensive training in treating posttraumatic stress and its comorbidities, including suicidal ideation.

The Headstrong Project addresses the mental health challenges faced by those who have experienced trauma before, during, and after service. A centralized intake screen, prior to client-therapist matching, results in seamless coordination of care and high client engagement. THP’s hybrid in-person and telehealth model translates to increased agility and portability of services. As a result of multistate licensing, services are available in 47 states to accommodate clients who move after starting treatment in one of our 16 core markets.
